2KM and 2KJ walk for Uganda!

The twenty-second of October has finally arrived, and anticipation was in the air as 2KM and 2KJ set off on the one hour walk/run this morning!

It is a lovely spring day here in Leopold, and all of the students, along with Miss McGeady and Miss Jordan, enjoyed the warm conditions as we ran for the Uganda cause.

We ran/walked laps around our two school ovals, check out the 600 metre route we followed on the map below...

Watch the fun unfold during our walk/run this morning...

Everyone loved being out in the fresh air and reflecting on our wonderful Ugandan Global Project. It is so great to be able to make a difference!

Do you have any questions about our walk/run today?

Dear 2KM and 2KJ,

Wow! Congratulations on your achievement! I think Team Toa is almost done with their walk as I type! In fourteen hours, it will be our turn here in California. Oh time zones! :-)

I was wondering, what was the air temperature during the walk/run? Also, did most people run or walk?

Tomorrow it is forecast to be cool and...possibly a little drizzle! Wish us luck!

Mrs. Y♥llis

Dear 2KM and 2KJ,
I echo Mrs. Yollis, a hearty congratulations to all of you! What a beautiful day for your run/walk. Everyone looked happy and invigorated!
I'd also like to know what the air temperature was, and I look forward to seeing the conversations that all of our students have through commenting on the blog!
I'm so excited that tomorrow is the big day for us!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Ranney

Dear Mrs Yollis and Mrs Ranney,

Thanks for your lovely comments, prompt as always!

It has been a beautiful day here in Leopold. This morning was warm and sunny and we all got quite hot as we completed the run/walk. I would say the air temperature was the low twenties (celcius of course). It is the warmest day we have had in months and months!

Miss McGeady and I ran most of the hour and the students did a combination of walking and running. I just did a hands-up survey and half of the students thought they ran most of the time, while the other half think they probably walked most of the time.

Everyone felt fantastic after we'd finished the run/walk. Exercise is so invigorating and we were running for such a wonderful cause!

Good luck for your run/walk tomorrow in California! We will be in bed (it will be in 4am here) but we look forward to checking out the blog to see how you went!

Best wishes,
Miss Jordan

I can't wait to see how much money we have raised!

Good luck to Uganda, Connecticut, and California. we'll be thinking and dreaming of you!

Dear Australian friends,

Congratulations on a great walk/run! It looked like you had a beautiful day for it. I loved watching the slideshow and seeing how excited and full of energy everyone was - with big smiles on all the faces.

On some of the student blogs, the students described feeling "puffed." That's a new phrase for me. Does it just mean tired, or is it only feeling tired from exercise? I bet we will be feeling a little puffed today also!

We actually have to walk a little later in the day because I have a meeting at 10:15. So we will walk at 1:30. That means we will be walking about at the same time as our California buddies!

Thanks for starting us all off on a fabulous day!

From, Mr. Salsich

This is so amazing. I'm sitting here in Pittsburgh, PA on a chilly autumn day as you guys in Australia are just getting into warm spring weather, and there you are, walking and running in the sunshine for the kids in Uganda! I'm so impressed by how everything has been planned and coordinated. This is truly a very exciting international effort, and I thank you all from the bottom of my heart for doing this!!! WOW.

Dear 2KM and 2KJ,
This is Aidan and Jamie.
We are from Mrs. Ranney's class in California. Your walk was exquisite! It looked like so much fun!
We have some questions:
How many laps did you do?
Did you enjoy you walk?
How many water breaks did you take?

Best Wishes,
Aidan and Jamie

Dear 2KM and 2KJ,
We are Jordyn and Justin from Mrs. Ranney's class. We loved your whole video. We didn't have a favorite part.
We have some questions for you:
How long did it take you to walk all the way?

What was your favorite part about the walk?

Was the walk tiring ?

Warmest Regards,

Dear Australian friends,
My name is Carly. From Mrs.Ranney's class in California. I think the video you made was excellant! All of it was so amazing that I didn't have a favorite part. I have to say congratulations, I can't believe it. You finished the walk. Don't you think that time is so interesting because when you did your walk where I live the time was 4:00 P.M.. Isn't that so wierd? I think that it is so awesome that so many classes are going on walks and all of them are at difforent times. I think that is very intereting.

Yours Truly,
Carly

@ Mrs Toa, well done on your walk! I really like what Elena said “it’s like walking around the world for a good cause”. It sure is!

☀☀☀☀☀☀☀☀☀☀☀☀☀☀☀☀

@ Mr Salsich, I agree, the students did have big smiles on their faces which was great to see!

That is so interesting that you don’t use the phrase “puffed”. Yes, that means out of breath after exercise.

Isn’t it fascinating learning all these things about language! By the way, “puffed” is probably a slang word. There are lots of slang words in Australia!

Well done on your walk!

☀☀☀☀☀☀☀☀☀☀☀☀☀☀☀☀

@ Renee, thank you for your amazing support throughout this project! I agree, it is truly exciting for all involved. We have got so much out of being involved in the project.

☀☀☀☀☀☀☀☀☀☀☀☀☀☀☀☀

@ Aiden and Jamie, Nice to hear from you. I’m actually not sure how many laps I did! Some students said 15 but I’m not sure. It was a very warm day so we had to take quite a few water breaks to stay hydrated. Yes, we all really enjoyed it!

☀☀☀☀☀☀☀☀☀☀☀☀☀☀☀☀

@ Justin and Jordyn, we walked/ran for one hour. My favourite part was watching all the students putting in their best effort! Yes, it was tiring because I ran most of the way but I felt so good afterwards! Thanks for your comment.

☀☀☀☀☀☀☀☀☀☀☀☀☀☀☀☀

@ Carly, I agree – time zones are VERY weird! It is so interesting to learn about time zones. It is now 11am on Saturday morning here in Australia so I think it must be around 5pm on Friday for you. Enjoy your weekend!

You are right. It is interesting that we are all doing a walk/run but it will be a different time to everyone else. That's cool!

Dear Australian,

Congratulations on the accomplishment! We stretched before the walk, but additionally you stretched after the walk. You also you did your walk at your school and we did it in our neighborhood. If you have seen the post about our walk then you already know some of this information that I am telling you.

I feel very good about helping a school that does not have as much as we do, so I hope that we raised enough money for the Ugandan school.

Warmly,

Dear 2km & 2kj

What a fantastic effort you have made. A 1 hour walk was terrific to raise money for Uganda. You looked like you all had a lot of fun and it was good excercise.

Just wondering how many times you walked around the ovals?
