All About Australian Money

The students in 2KM and 2KJ have been collecting lots of money for our Ugandan Global Project.

Our grand total is....

$1750 Australian dollars

which is

$1680 US dollars

This is an AMAZING effort from all the students, friends and family of 2KM and 2KJ.

Thank you!

We thought we would tell our friends in America, China and Uganda all about our Australian currency (money).

Check out this PowerPoint with photos of the money we raised for this project and facts about the Australian currency.

What did you learn?

Do you have any questions about Australian currency?

How is money in Australia similar or different to other currencies?

Dear 2KM,

What a great post Miss McGeady put up. Miss McGeady you did a great job making the post. two grades raised alot of money. 2KM & 2KJ raised lots of money. How much money do you think there will be once where all raised? They mite have more money then us but it would e a great amount of money that we raise together. Great job every one! How got the $100 dollar note? I only raised $20 dollars because I didn't get it time to ask everyone.

Hope we give them lots of money,
Ashleigh

@ Ash, thanks for your comment. Do not say you only raised $20. $20 is a fantastic effort and it will mean a lot to our Ugandan friends!

I have no idea how much we'll raise all together but I can't wait to find out. The land costs $5000. I wonder if we'll get that much?

@ Marcus, thanks for your comment. I agree, we don't see $100 notes too often and raising $100 is an amazing effort! We have done so well.

Best wishes,
Miss McGeady

Dear 2KM and 2KJ,

Wow I loved your slide show about money in Australia. We have counted all our dollar bills and we raised around five hundred dollars, but we still do not know how much in change. I have found a difference:

1.You have two dollar bills and we have a very old one dollar bill and it is pretty old.

Dear 2KM and 2KM,

I loved your video. I noticed many similarities. You have six coins and we do too. Also I noticed that we both have a 100 note, a 50 note, and a 5 note. I noticed a lot of differences. Our notes are green and
yours are all different colors. You call them notes and we call them dollars or bills!

I have some questions. Did you have more coins in the past? If you bend the notes hard do they break?

From,
Ryan

Dear UGP members,

I am from Mr. Salsich`s class. You have very colorful money. In america our money is only grey, silver, brown and green.

Dear 2KM and 2KJ,

We are students from Mrs. Yollis' class.

What a fabulous slide show with Australian money! We have found some differences:

1. On all your money you have the same person, Queen Elizabeth II.

2. The dollar notes are all different colors, while ours are only green.

We have found some similarities:

1. We both have someone famous on the money.

2. There are the same amount of coins.

We have some questions:

1. How many sides are there on the fifty cent piece?

2. Why is there the same person on every piece of money?

Warmly,
T★cker and Im★n

Dear Australian friends,

We watched your slide show and loved it. We have some differences and similarities.

First of all, we call notes bills. Also we have $1 coins.

We have some similarities. We also have one dollar bills and one dollar coins.

We also have a question. Since your notes are made out of plastic, can you rip or fold them?

@ 2KM and 2KJ,

The money in Australia is very different than the money in the US. Here are some differences: The money in the US is not colorful, and our coins aren't flat on the sides.
Our coins are round.
We have a question for you : Why is Queen Elizabeth 11 on every coin?

Nick and Ileanna

Dear 2KM and 2KJ,

I like the way you put your slide show together!

There are some differences. In our currency, some of the presidents are on the dollars and cents. But you guys have Queen Elizabeth II on all of them. Some similarities are that we have 5 notes, 10 notes, 20 notes, 50 notes, 100 notes.

@ Nick and IIeanna,

I think American money is really different to Australian money! It's good that it's colourful because you know what colour each note would be.

Our coins are round and other shapes. Elizabeth is on our coins because she is very special.

Dear Ben and Aaron,

Hi Aaron and Ben thank you for your great comment. I am glad that you liked our money slideshow.

Now I am going to anwser your question.

This is what you said: "We also have a question." "Since your notes are made out of plastic, can you rip or fold them?"
This is the answer...
Well we can fold them and we can only rip it if we try really hard.

Best Wishes,
Kealee (2KJ Miss Jordans class)

@ - Iman and Tucker,

Thanks for leaving a comment! I'm glad you liked the slideshow of Australian money.

I really enjoyed reading the differences and simarallities you had.

Here are the answers to your questions:

There are 12 sides on our fifty cent piece. It is called a dodecagon.

Queen Elizabeth is on every coin because she is our queen.

Talk soon,
Millie in Miss Jordan's grade.

Dear Australian friends,

Wow! Congratulations to all the students and families from 2KM and 2KJ. It is an amazing accomplishment to raise that much money. You should all feel very proud of what you have done to help out other people.

One of the things that I noticed was different about our currency is that in the U.S.A. we have a 25¢ coin instead of a 20¢ coin. Do the coins have "nicknames"? For example, we call our ten cent coin a "dime."

I predicted that a lot of your currency would have the queen on it. I wonder if all commonwealth countries have the queen on their currency?

I love how the notes are colorful. That must make it easier to tell them apart. In America all the notes are green, which is kind of boring.

Again, great job raising all that money!

From,
Mr. Salsich

Dear Mr Salsich,

Thanks for your comment! We were very happy with our fundraising efforts and it is fantastic to know that we are all going to help make school so much more fun for the students at the ABC Devine Foundation School.

In Australia we don't really have any nicknames for our coins. I just checked online, and I believe that most, if not all, Commonwealth countries feature Queen Elizabeth on at least some of their coins. Interesting!

We like our colourful notes in Australia. When Miss McGeady and I visited America a few years ago, it took us a little while to get used to having notes that were all the same colour!

Dear Aussie Friends,

The slide show was stunning.

I learned that in Australia paper money is called notes.

Can you tell me what is on the $2 dollar note and describe what it looks like?

Australian money is different because you have Queen Elizabeth II on all coins and we have different presidents on our coins.

All the best,

@ Aiden,

Thanks for your comment. I love the way you used the adjective stunning!

The $2 note is quite small. One side shows an Aboriginal Elder and the Southern Cross which is a star constellation that you can see in Australia. The other side has the Queen.

@ Carly,

Thank you for your kind words. We can't wait to find out how much you raised!

Dear UGP members,

WOW! It is a miracle. You guys raised so much money so far. It must of been hard work getting $1750 dollars [notes] but to the children in Uganda they will think it is more.

You guys did something that not many people would be able to do.

You guys just raised enough for them to have a
land but when the rest of the money comes they'll
have a whole new life

Congrats 2KM and 2KJ... what an amazing amount of money to raise for Uganda! Well done all!

And I loved your post about the Australian Currency. I learned a lot from the post. In Ireland we had a 1 pound note that we changed to a 1 pound coin as well. And now in Euros we have one and two euro coins. I loved reading about the different people on the notes as well, I didn't know any of that. So thanks 2KM and 2KJ!

Well done again!
Mrs Murphy

Miss Jordan said...

@ Ben - Thanks! We were very happy with our fundraising efforts! I'm sure the Uganda kids will love their new playground!

@ Tyler - Yes, it's wonderful that just our money alone was enough to buy the land. Now, with everyone's else's fantastic fundraising efforts, they'll get even more!

@ Mrs Murphy - Thanks for your kind words! We were thrilled with our fundraising results. It is very interesting to learn facts about currencies from around the world. I have learnt so much from our UGP!
